Page 8, Summer has gone fast

Summer is going by very fast. It got up in the 90 degree area a few times, but mostly quite nice weather.

In September it cooled off so we did a couple of outdoor activities. I had been wanting to explore and ride the Colorado Rockies so I invited President Jones and Elder Jones to go on a trail ride near Mancus Colorado in the La Plata Mountain Range.

They consented so I made arrangements with the Rimrock Outfitters a husband and wife (Perry and Lynne) trail ride organization near Mancos.

Here we unloading the horse getting ready for

 our trail ride.

Here we are having meeting in the Colorado Rockies.

This is just below mount Hesperus, which is over 13,000 high. The top is in the clouds.

Here is Lynne (our trail boss) and I for a photo op.

Elder Jones and I didn't get enough so the next week end we went back into the area and hiked up on the ridge line to about 12,000 feet.

We drove Big Red up the mountain as far as we dared, then set out on foot. There were some switchbacks that we followed up the hill to near the top. Then we took a trail the rest of the way up to the ridge line.

Near the top their was the remains of some mining activity done years ago. We understand they mined for gold, silver, etc.

When we reached the top it was nice to sit and rest for a few minutes. It was just beautiful up there.

After climbing to the ridge line we hiked down to the South Fork of West Mancos River.

At the bottom there was a neat little water fall and pond. We rested for a few minutes then hiked back up to Big Red. We were both somewhat surprised that we held up as well as we did. His running and my health club work outs sure paid off.

We then drove to Mancos where I treated Elder Jones to a prime rib for his  sixty fifth birthday. Last year a treated him also but, then it was mutton stew. He will never forget it either.
